Golucho is one of the main representatives of the New Realism. He is an extremely self-demanding painter, whose sniper career irreducibly makes him a prototype of the true artist, without contamination or concessions to the art market.
Golucho lived much of the dictatorship era in Spain and, later, the democratic transition, producing works that represent the world and its miseries. In Madrid he studied with eager intensity the legacy of the great masters exhibited in El Prado and Cason del Buen Retiro.
He lived in Paris just when the capital of the avantgardes was extinguishing and from here he inherited the spirit of the bohemian experience that he still retains and somehow defined his work during a period. After his return to Spain Golucho began a process of intimate relationship with painting and its expressive possibilities within realism, culminating in the nineties with the achievement of a remarkably innovative personal language for new representations of the figure.
His main focus is on the human being and the state of souls, and how that state is manifested in the physical body. He chooses vivid characters, marked by life, with huge communication power. Golucho practices a generally harsh and highly singled portrait with a very complex technique, where the search becomes a new kind of virtuosity and exciting adventure itself.
He uses the painting support as an element of the painting, breaking, altering or overlapping different layers. Creation is for him a journey of suffering, justified by the safe delivery of the finished work, high in quality.
